Our team is a dynamic and globally connected group of researchers, practitioners, and innovators associated with the Institute for Quality of Life. We are united by a shared mission: understanding and enhancing the quality of life in urban areas. With a focus on sustainable development, we aim to balance the needs of the present with the aspirations of future generations. At the heart of our work lies a deep commitment to promoting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a universal framework for creating better cities and communities.

The Happy City Index emerged as an extension of our research—a framework designed to assess and compare cities worldwide using approximately 80 indicators. It is a comprehensive tool that informs policy, highlights best practices, and fosters collaboration. This annual endeavour is made possible by the dedication of more than 150 researchers from diverse backgrounds, who contribute valuable data and insights.

Our research is rooted in the belief that cities play a pivotal role in shaping the happiness and well-being of their residents. By carefully analysing cities and identifying effective governance models, we aim to demonstrate how citizen-focused strategies, technology, and equitable resource distribution can transform urban living.

Another cornerstone of our work is the Happy City Academy, an educational platform offering specialised courses and workshops. Designed for city leaders, planners, business stakeholders, and community advocates, the Academy equips participants with the knowledge and tools needed to implement sustainable solutions for enhancing quality of life. It is led by a dedicated team of educators, experts, and practitioners who share their experience and insights to foster innovation and collaboration.
